ISO: what is it?

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an independent non-governmental international body involved in standard-setting. Since 1946 ISO has been working out technical standards for various areas of business and industry. According to the article 2.1 of ISO Charter, this organization aims to develop internationally applicable standards that would facilitate product turnover and establish closer cooperation ties in the field of intellectual, scientific, technical and economic activities.

GOST ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System)

ISO 9001 is an international standard to quality management system. ISO 9001-2015 is the latest version of ISO 9001 which is used to evaluate management practices and improve product quality.

GOST OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational health and safety management system)

An OHSAS 18001:2007 Certificate (also: GOST-R 54934-2012) confirms that a company implements and observes OHSAS 18001:2007 quality management standard in terms of industrial safety and labor protection. This standard was introduced by the British Standards Institution in 1999, OHSAS is an abbreviation of “Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series”. It is international and 100% compatible with ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 standards and to some extent can be seen as their successor.

It’s vital to point out that OHSAS standard will evaporate into irrelevance by 2021 on the global market as a result of arrival of ISO 45001 Standard in 2018, developed by the International Organization for Standardization. Yet, it will remain revelant in Russia as a GOST-R 54934-2012 Standard.

GOST ISO 14001:2016 (Environmental management system)

ISO 14000 standards were developed on a similar principle as 9001 ISO standards: they also offer a voluntary approach to management and might serve as benchmarks for directors and signal a responsible attitude to prospective clients and business partners.

ISO 14001-2016 is the latest version of ISO 14000 - Environmental management. With this document a company shows to stakeholders that it takes into account production impact and therefore promotes an eco-conscious approach.
