Individual protecive means certification: when is it a must?
Individual protective masks have become commonplace nowadays, especially in the COVID-2019 outbreak, with demand on these items skyrocketing within months.Under the Russian law, all masks can be divided into 3 types:
- Dust masks;
- Medical masks (including respirators);
- Professional masks (used for fire fighting or construction works)
When launching mask production it’s crucial to know that the 1 type is usually not subject to mandatory certification. For masks of 2 type a manufacturer is supposed to obtain a Medical device registration certificate and though the Russian govenrment made the procedure of obtaining it simplified (on March, 18, in 2020) still it is a long and difficult process.
The 3-rd type of masks is subject to mandatory certification in accordance with Customs Union Technical Regulations 019/2011 “Safety of individual protective gear”. To identify what certification measures are to be taken it’s vital to consider products’ Customs code.
Overall, documents we mentioned are the only thing an entrepreneur has to take care of as there’s no need to license or certificate the mask production itself.
To sum up, to ensure production quality it’d be a good idea to obtain an ISO 9001 Certificate that would add to the company’s credibility and display its commitment to follow internationally-acknowledged standards.
