Product samples for testing and certification

Certification is a process of assessing product’s safety and compliance with existing rules and regulations. Anticipated enough, to make sure of goods’ safety a certification center should have a look at their sample and even send it to a testing laboratory.

Number of samples to be provided for testing

The number of samples required varies from the type of the document and certification scheme. For example, to obtain EAC Declaration of Conformity a Manufacturer is supposed to send from one to three samples. There are sometimes cases when no samples at all are required but this rule works only with low-risk products.

When it comes to issuing EAC Certificate the rules get more stringent. One sample for certification can be hardly enough, usually three samples are needed.

What happens to the samples in a laboratory?

As a rule, experts examine the samples and hold certain tests. Test procedures are not randomly selected – all of them are described in special documents – Technical regulations and GOSTs.

With testing over, laboratory experts conclude a Test report that contains all data and results received during the examination and tests. The Test report is sent to the certification center that registers EAC Certificate or Declaration based on it.

All in all, a company wishing to receive certifications should be ready to send the number of samples required by a certification center. The samples don’t need certifications to pass the customs however there will be a document confirming that the products are for testing only and not for sale or personal use. The mentioned document is provided by the laboratory that will carry out tests.

EAC Declaration VS EAC Certificate: what is the difference?

Both documents have equal legal force, the difference lies in testing methods and forms of the documents. A Declaration is usually printed on a white A4-size form, while a Certificate requires a yellow form of strict accounting.

Can I choose what document to obtain?

Unfortunately, you can't. All the information concerning certification procedures is included in the Technical regulations. If a TR states that a certain type of products requires a Certificate, it is the only right option for the company to avoid problems.
